First foreigner gains Greek property-for-residency permit

20 Aug 2013
A Chinese businessman has become the first foreigner to gain Greek residency through buying a property, it is claimed.
The buyer is Jin Hong from Beijing, who works in the real estate sector, says Greek property development and investment specialist firm Build Up that dealt with the application, press reports state.
The property, which was purchased in early August, is a two-story maisonette, costing €252,000 in Attica,
near the Eleftherios Venizelos International Airport.
The agreement was brought about by BuildUp and its Chinese partner CSDH, which promotes Greek real estate to Chinese buyers.
The law offering residency permits on property purchases of €250,000 or more by non-European Union citizens was passed earlier this year and promoted on a visit to China by Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras
